Functional Skills Tutor

Salary: £22,000 to £25,000 p.a.

Job Description

As an English and Maths trainer, you will have experience of classroom based delivery.  Preparing, planning and delivering Functional Skills/Award level literacy and numeracy ranging from entry level to level 2 on our Traineeship Programme for 16-24 year olds.   You will need Excellent planning and organisational skills. Previous experience of delivering end to end English and Maths functional skills lessons with the ability to teach up to Level 2 is essential. An outstanding track record along with being reliable, professional, hardworking and punctual.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • You will prepare and review lesson plans, schemes of work and teaching materials and develop material for classroom interventions as part of our Traineeship Program.
  • Prepare learners for examinations and create appropriate and interesting revision activities.
  • Carry out regular reviews and monitor learner’s progression in line with their Individual learning plan and set new learning targets.
  • You will provide accurate and timely formative and summative assessment and feedback to learners, and maintain assessment records, including tracking and reporting of learner progress in line with Links2work’s policy.
  • To liaise with our Head of Operations as appropriate.
  • Deliver Entry to Level 2 English and Maths Functional skills
  • Complete internal paperwork relating to client attendance, achievements and other activities.
  • To participate in appropriate programme, course and standardisation meetings to ensure contributions to individual learning programmes and maximise achievement opportunities for learners.
  • Administer and invigilate Assessments following the Awarding Body’s regulations and in house invigilator procedures.
  • You will participate and contribute to curriculum developments.
  • You will maintain CPD and keep up to date with all developments within English and Maths both internally and nationally. Links2work’s policies and procedures including equality and diversity, safeguarding and health and safety.

 

Background and experience:

Learner Recruitment/Employer Engagement

 Role Overview

 

The role of Learner Recruiter will be to engage with both adults and young people aged 16 to 24, to provide IAG, initial assessment and brokerage services, create opportunities for short courses, traineeships, apprenticeships, paid employment and work placements.  You will engage and build relationships with other training providers, referral agencies such as JCP and others in order to generate opportunities.  You will also be responsible for liaising with both the employer and the young person to generate the appropriate placement opportunity.  You will ensure the MI system is up to date within the claims timeframe each month.

 

Accountabilities

 

  • Attend Job Centres and promote opportunities and referrals onto diverse programmes for both adults and young people.
  • Develop and build relationships with other training providers and referral agencies in order to generate referrals to all programmes.
  • Carry out  Learner Assessments to include functional skills assessment, IAG, proof of eligibility, ID and maintain records on the learner.
  • Meet agreed KPIs and targets on a daily basis, generating reports to management on performance expectations, weekly, daily and monthly.
  • Update MI software with opportunities, employers and learner details.
  • Attend networking events and small business meetings to generate sales opportunities.
  • Complete Health and Safety Assessment with employers where required.
  • Research and contact companies that have shown a commitment to corporate and social responsibility
  • Establish relationships with both local and London based employers, generating accurate database of leads that can be accessed by the Senior Management Team as required.
  • Support learners and mediate where necessary.
  • Set up face to face meetings with employers to source on going vacancies recognising skills gaps within the local labour market
  • Liaise with local recruitment companies for existing vacancies which can generate opportunities
  • Generate new employer contacts for work experience, employment and progression outcomes through on-going business development and sales activity
  • Complete Training Needs Analysis with employers
  • Any other duties as required.

 

Relationship Management

 

  •  Generate and establish new employer relationships via a range of techniques including cold-calling, personal visits, following up sales generated leads, and working with new and existing employer links, networking, JCP relationships, stakeholder relationships
  • Fully competent with all programmes delivered and what benefits they have for both the learner and the employer as required
  • Accountable and responsible for the successful development of work experience placements, employment, traineeship and apprenticeship opportunities for 16-24 year olds.
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with Tutors, Team Leaders, and other members of the Senior Management Team.
  • Be fully aware of Traineeships and Apprenticeship frameworks and in order to assess the suitability of the learner and employer

 Providing additional support as required to both Tutors and Learners, confident and able to talk about employability skills on a 1-2-1 basis or with a group of young learners, providing non regulated activated as required.

  • Show a good understanding of the needs of the young person, recognising and guiding them in the right direction to ensure the most appropriate route of progression.

  •  Ensure a good understanding of the principles of continuous improvement and actively suggest ways to develop and improve the business as a whole both locally and nationally.
